Self-mutilation

Self-mutilation is any intentional behavior involving direct aggression to one’s own body without the conscious intention of suicide. The acts are usually intended to relieve emotional pain and in most cases are associated with Borderline Personality Disorder.

The most common forms of self-mutilation are:

  • cut your own skin
  • hit yourself
  • burn yourself
  • scratch
  • threading needles
  • break the bones
